The InPost Group, a leader in logistics solutions for the e-commerce industry in Europe, is introducing a new model of Paczkomat® machine. The innovative solution allows the machines to be erected regardless of the availability of the electricity grid, thanks to their photovoltaic panels and energy storage. The pilot will be carried out in Gdansk and Krakow, as well as in European markets—the UK, Italy, and France.

The new autonomous InPost machine retains all the functionalities of the standard machine. However, additional options have been introduced to optimize energy consumption. For example, the machine's lighting is reduced to 30% of its output after dusk, and at night, when usage is negligible, the Parcel Locker can be entirely switched off.

The machines have photovoltaic panels on the roof and energy storage that works even in sub-zero temperatures. A built-in battery enables the Parcel Locker to be placed anywhere, regardless of access to the power grid. As part of the pilot, 'mother machines' are also being erected—connected to the power grid—which recharge batteries to power standalone machines in the event of bad weather.

- The Autonomous Parcel Locker is another innovation of the InPost Group. These state-of-the-art machines can now be placed in locations previously impossible due to lack of access to the power grid. The new machines make our network more accessible to as many customers as possible. This is another step in implementing our ambitious decarbonization strategy and a unique technological solution unavailable on the market. It is worth noting that we will run the pilot simultaneously in four European countries, which will give us a unique insight into the possibilities of expanding the network of autonomous machines in countries with different weather conditions - emphasizes Izabela Karolczyk-Szafrańska, Group Chief Marketing & ESG Officer.

As part of a pilot of autonomous Parcel Lockers, nine machines were set up in Poland - in Kraków and Gdańsk. At the end of May, three machines were put into service in Florence, where there has been no need to replace the batteries. In London, tests are being carried out on two machines, and in France, the pilot is due to start later this month around the city of Lille - where nine machines are planned.

InPost Group's decarbonisation strategy is an integral addition to its business strategy. The carbon footprint of InPost Parcel Lockers deliveries generates up to 98% less CO2 emissions over the last mile compared to InPost home delivery. The autonomous Parcel Locker is another step in InPost's effort to reduce its carbon footprint. The Group is also investing in the development of electromobility in terms of fleet and electric chargers. In addition, InPost is the first company in Poland with SBTi-approved NET-ZERO by 2040 targets and one of seven companies worldwide in the logistics sector to pursue an ambitious decarbonization path to 2040.
